FREE THINGS TO DO IN ENSENADA
- 1. La Bufadora – La Bufadora is a marine geyser that regularly shoots seawater up to 100 feet in the air from a submerged cave. Even on a calm day, be prepared to get wet from the spray. But the best time to visit is when the waves are high and the sprays are more impressive. La Bufadora is located on the beautiful Punta Banda peninsula, making it a highlight on day trips from Ensenada. Consider joining a tour that includes transportation and a local guide who’ll show you around the blowhole and nearby market for plenty of food and trinkets.
- 2. Bodegas Magoni – Wines made with the heart, with a trajectory of two generations cultivating vine and making wine. From the hand of the enologist Camillo Magoni, we invite you to know, respect and care for the wine culture. For reservations: https://casamagoni.meitre.com/
- 3. First Street – This street is lined with shops selling curio, with many items costing under $5.
- 4. El Parque de la Bandera – Charming harborside park with a relaxed vibe featuring a playground & a fountain.
- 5. Avenida Lopez Mateos – Main shopping street lined with shops selling everything from straw hats to wood carvings.
- 6. The Fish Market – Buy some fresh fish and some tacos at this open-air market.
- 7. La Lobera – La Lobera is a magnificent sea lion crater, just 3 dusty miles from Highway 1 at Km. 47.5, south of San Quintin and 6 miles north of El Rosario.
- 8. Plaza Civica – Ensenada’s city center containing the busts of three historical figures: Benito Juarez, Miguel Hidalgo and Venustiano Carranza.
- 9. Catavina Rock Paintings (Las Pintas) – These are 10,000 year old cave paintings. Unlike most in the Baja Peninsula, these are very near the main north-south road of the peninsula, so you can park your car and walk there. 1/4 mile maybe. It is a steep and awkward climb up to the cave with the paintings.
- 10. Avenida Ruiz – This street is lined with some of the more refined shops and cafes.
