- 1. Playa Bonita – Set along the North Atlantic Ocean, the resort community of Playa Bonita is home to its picturesque namesake beach, featuring golden sands and a backdrop of palm trees. It’s a popular spot for surfing and stand-up paddleboarding, and accommodations range from simple hotels to condo complexes with pools. The leafy area is dotted with bars and restaurants, some featuring seafood dishes and ocean views.
- 2. Catedral Sagrado Corazón de Jesús – A cathedral located between Avenidas 3 and 4, and Calles 5 and 6. A must-see if you’re going to downtown Limón. The first Catholic church in Limón was established in 1892. When the parish was created, it was named for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The old cathedral was demolished in 2001, and the new one was designed in a more modern style by Mexican architect Raúl Godar. The windows, bell and the monument of Christ from the original cathedral remain part of the new building. The church has a garden and plaza, perfect for a visit and some photos with your whole family.
- 3. Vargas Park – The city’s waterfront centerpiece won’t ever win best in show, but its decrepit bandstand, paths and greenery are surprisingly appealing, all shaded by palms and facing the docks. However, it’s best avoided at night.
- 4. Mercado Municipal – Explore the vibrant Limón Municipal Market, where local culture, cuisine, and crafts come together in a colorful Caribbean experience.
- 5. Redfrogteam – Redfrogteam offers tours in Limon, Costa Rica, including a half-day boat and walking trip to the Tortuguero canals. The tour is known for its red-eyed frogs, which the region is famous for.
