BE AWARE OF SCAMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Please don’t fall for these. Always check the profile of the person selling. If they don’t have multiple pictures, or any information listed, or have not been a member for a long time, it is probably a SCAM. The biggest one you’ll see is the person selling t-shirts for your Particular Ship or Cruise that were “Designed by their Autistic Son, Please Support or Encourage Him.” You’ll see this everywhere – it’s a shame that some people try to use this to SCAM you. Another one that has popped up recently is for Cruise Ducks. The SCAMMER will come on a post, “Cruise Plans Cancelled, message me if you would like to buy my ducks.” Don’t fall for it! I’ve also recently been seeing Custom Cups and Tumblers – send in your design and they bring them to you on the Cruise. These people are not even on your Cruise! NEVER send anyone money unless you verify the authenticity first.
Huge Red Flag: If the person asks you to send them money before your Cruise – whether to “Pre-Order” something, or to reserve something on the ship. If they are organizing a Slot Pull, and ask you to send them money before the Cruise – they are most likely not on your Cruise and are going to steal your money. With any real Slot Pull, you give the money at the time of the event!
Other things to look for: If the person only has one name (no last name). Check their page and look for signs of it being a legitimate page – how long have they had their account? How many friends do they have? Do they actually have posts? BIG RED FLAG – if they disable comments. Don’t be afraid to ask for proof that they are actually on your cruise.
ADMINISTRATORS OF SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES – The only way to really stop them is to change your settings of your group so all Posts must be approved. I have been an administrator of many groups, and they never get their SCAMs onto any of my pages.
Never buy from someone that doesn’t have a legitimate store front/Tax ID number. If they ask you to Message them directly – it’s a SCAM. They will ask you to send money, then BLOCK you once your receive it. Below are some examples of SCAM Photos.
Below is another example of a SCAM that you see in different groups all over Facebook. The SCAMMER will post a simple game like this one, and when you post the answer, they will ask you to message them directly, where they will get you to try to buy something or try to steal from you!
Another new SCAM that has recently popped up: This one is very clever! Please don’t fall for it! Women are posting Pictures of Funny Shirts, and Posting how it would be fun to get all the Husbands/Boyfriends to wear the same shirt as a joke. You then message them, they ‘take’ your order and steal your money! Picture to be posted, soon.
Here’s another one that has popped up recently – beware!!!
